Shake out! New Zealand Earthquake Drill

Today at school we practised our earthquake drill as part of the New Zealand-wide Shake Out!You can see Rata 2 in the stop, drop, cover and hold position.

Young Leaders Awards

Such privilege to be at the inaugural Rotary Leadership Award ceremony for outstanding young leaders in Porirua. Papakowhai School nominated Sendhil Rungasamy and Gemma Orsman because they are outstanding role models and leaders in our school. They were presented with their award by Nick Leggett, Mayor of Porirua.

Papakowhai School compete in the EPRO8 Technology Challenge

Elijah, Josh, Erana and Zoe competed in the Epro8 Technology Challenge hosted at Papakowhai School. They competed in the semi-final against teams from across the region. They tied for second and go through to the grand final next week.

Papakowhai are the Year 5 and 6 Swimming Champions

Papakowhai School Year 5/6 Swim Team took out the Parumoana Inter-School Championship today. Congratulations to  all our wonderful swimmers and special thanks to our Manager Rachel Jones.

Wellington Lit Quiz at Papakowhai School

Today Papakowhai School hosted the Wellington Final of the Lit Quiz. It was a terrific competition. Thanks to our wonderful Home and School parents who provided morning tea and lunch. Well done to our students and thanks to Mrs Judy Munro for great coaching and organising.

Last Day of Swimming

We have had a brilliant swimming season at Papakowhai School thanks to sunny weather, our new heater and super swimmers.

Modern Learning Environments

Our redevelopment of Kuai Block is going well. Here are some new photos. We are still expecting to move in at the start of term 2.

The concrete work you can see outside is the new plumbing for our wet areas.

The door you can see in the corner is to the shared teacher workroom.

What a great time we had with the Phoenix today. We have a lot of soccer stars at Papakowhai.

Anyone can do it!

Today Mr Smith was Mr Robinson's stunt double and ran an iPad app workshop. This just goes to show that anyone can do it and indeed you can teach an old dog new tricks. Book creator is such an easy app to use. 

Great progress in Kauri

The framing is going up and the colours are all chosen. It's looking pretty awesome for the new and improved Kauri Block.

Whanau Fun

Great seeing our new whanau leaders getting their groups sorted for the Aotea picnic on Thursday. Here is Kereru.

Rimu 3 do handwriting

Rimu 3 did their handwriting out on the court today. I was impressed to see the careful formation they were using. After they worked on the court they came inside and practised in their books. Great job Rimu 3.

Teachers learning about Maths

Our teachers are working with Julie Roberts this year for Maths professional development. Today Julie was working with our Rata and Rimu teachers on junior school assessment of Maths.

Fire drill today

We carried out our first fire drill today. All clear and accounted for in less than 7 mins.

The new heater is in.

The pool was 26 degrees at 8am this morning after a cold night!

Kauri will never be the same!

This is the last time Kauri will look like this. Construction starts on Tuesday.

Kauri in the hall

This term Kauri are in the hall and Rata 5 and 6 until our building work is finished. They are working so well in the hall, it is a great set up.
